Batman: Arkham Asylum Walkthrough Part 1

Hello, all you Blogger folks, and today we're talking about the opening scenes in Arkham Asylum. This walkthrough will cover the initial introduction, in which you break out of Intensive Treatment and really start to see the true colors of the game. This will provide tips, tricks, and strategies for those parts in Batman: Arkham Asylum that you just can't seem to get past. Enjoy!

Instead of describing the whole scenario, like a lot of walkthroughs do, we protect your eyes from knowing key plot points in parts of games you may not yet know about with our 100% spoiler-proof walkthroughs. Guaranteed.

When you start the game (the part where the game gives you maximum control over Batman), you will be forced to beat up people. To move, use the traditional controls (Left Analog Stick on the PS3 and 360, W-A-S-D on Windows). To attack,  use Square on the PlayStation, click the left side of your mouse on Windows, or press X on the Xbox. To counter, press Triangle on the PlayStation, click the right side of your mouse on Windows, or use Y on the 360. To know when to counter, watch out for when your enemies have little Spidey-Sense lines over their heads and make your move then. Those are the basics you need to know for combat right now. Beat up Joker's little groups that he sends out, and, eventually, he'll open the security gate.

Now it is really important that, as of this part of Intensive Treatment, you need to destroy the little wind-up Joker teeth that are all around. To destroy these, use the Batarang by pressing L1, LT, or Q, depending on what device you're playing on. You'll discover later on why these little chatterboxes are so important.

But on to the main thing now. Right now, you need to follow the bodies Joker left behind. It'll go much quicker if you Sprint, by pressing and holding X, A, or the Space bar. You may come across a few of Joker's henchman along the way, but no need to worry. Just use the skills aforementioned earlier and you should be safe.

After a while, you'll run into a security guard who mentions Victor Zsasz has taken a hostage. This is the first part where the game's Predator mechanics are really shown. If Zsasz sees you, he'll kill the hostage, and the game will be over. So, what you have to do, is run on upstairs until you are prompted to enter Detective Vision, using either L2, LB, or X. Afterwards, Batman will point out the well-placed gargoyles spread across the room. Use R1, RB, or F to get to the gargoyles. Now, there are two different ways to take Zsasz down. The linear version is to Glide Kick (using Square, X, or a left click), then performing a Ground Takedown on him (R2+Triangle, RT+Y, Left Control and a left click), or Quick Bataranging him with the controls above, then performing a Ground Takedown.

Immediately after you take Zsasz down, a cutscene will play, then you will be tasked with finding a way to escape the room. This may sound difficult, but all you have to do is approach the air vent directly across from the Structural Weakness (if you're in Detective Mode) and rip it off the wall by button-mashing Triangle, Y, or the infamous right click. You should now be able to enter the air duct by using R2, RT, or Left Control to Crouch.

Along the way, players will encounter something they've never seen before: a -SPOILER-! To pick up the -SPOILER-, simply use X, A, or the Space bar.

As you come out of the air duct, you will see a guard, running, because his buddies are trapped in a room with Joker's version of tear gas. After chatting with the officer, you will have to look straight above Batman and see that, to get up there, the Grapnel Gun will have to be used. Once you hop on up there, you'll have to climb around in some air vents to get to the tear gas room. To complete this room, you will have to save everybody that isn't dead and turn on the room's main fan with a Batarang. There are two guards and one Joker henchman that need saving. The game will give you the prompt to save the trio whenever you approach their locations. After you save the Joker henchman, turn to the left and Quickfire Batarang the fan's button. The room will be cleared of the deadly gas, and you will be able to advance.

Another running through the halls of Arkham Asylum part. What your objective is is to follow Joker's major trail he left for you until you get to Extreme Isolation, where you are tasked with taking on your first -SPOILER-. Essentially, all you have to do is avoid anything it tries to do by evading (press X x2, A x2, or Left Click x2). Eventually, it will have a heart attack, and die. Now, you must backtrack to the beginning, and enter Detective Mode to pinpoint a trail for -SPOILER-!

Afterward, along the way to finding -SPOILER-, the easy way of doing it gets blown up (you'll see what I mean!) and Batman has to do things the "old-fashioned way" (you'll again see what I mean!) As you're going along (a vent's coming up, by the way ;), the game's first armed henchmen will be introduced. You have to, according to the loading screens, "Isolate armed henchmen and take them down silently one by one". That line may not be spot-on, but that's a paraphrase. Anyway, you have to Silent Takedown these guys, which the game will tell you how to do. As you go into the next room, Joker will be talking to one of his men over a television. Make sure Joker doesn't spot you (by waiting until the conversation's over) or just run in there and hit this guy three times. Either way is fine. You have to, again, crawl through some air vents, and go to your first real Predator Challenge.

This is a real short Predator Challenge. Just Silent Takedown everybody (make sure the guy facing away from a ladder doesn't see you) and that'll be that. Just kidding! Joker sends some more henchman through the door. But, in this part of the game, the henchman are really easy to take on, because they're dumber than usual and they do not have -SPOILER-s. After you finish these guys off, climb up the aforementioned ladder and approach Joker's newest victim.

So, after that, nothing happens. Does that mean the game is broke? NO! Just wait, probably, a maximum of ten seconds and you will get a surprise phone call from a DC supervillain! He'll leave you with a question, which is really easy to solve, just go towards the ladder and turn left (do not go down the ladder!).

Once the question has been solved, a security guard will come out. Talk to the man and go down the way he came from. This is pretty much it!

So, I'd like to thank you pageviewers out there (there was a lot more pageviews than I anticipated!), and, if you can, please comment and let me know how to improve the page, send me your ideas for the video games I should play in the future, and I will see you all tomorrow.

P.S. Since we started this halfway through July, we'll carry on Arkham Asylum with Challenge Maps and, the PlayStation and Mac exclusive, Play as the Joker Challenge Maps. Note: We can only do these on Predator Challenges, because it's really hard to explain how to beat the stuffing out of somebody.
